As if we needed another reason to love Target đŻ
Target premiered a special 3-minute commercial on 2017’s Grammy night as only Target could (remember the rollerskating party live commercial with Gwen Stefani during last year’s Grammys?). This year’s music video/commercial is in the spirit of Grammy collaboration and featured two of music’s rising stars, Carly Rae Jepsen & Lil Yachty. Pop meets Hip Hop.
As explained on Target’s corporate page, “Carly and Yachty take over a Target store for an epic dance party, where everyday products transform into instruments, eye candy and more. As the action unfolds, we see that everything gets better when unexpected things come together.” I just love what Rick Gomez, executive vice president and chief marketing officer, of Target had to say about the spot:
Music has always been a powerful way for us to connect with our guests. This spot captures the fun of a Target run, the only place where you can stock up on groceries and find the perfect bathing suit, against the backdrop of an unexpected remake of ‘It Takes Two.’ We couldnât think of a better place to share it than during the GRAMMYs, musicâs biggest night.
Check out the behind the scenes video below, followed by the 3-minute spot to see how Target pulled it off. The song is a Mike Will Made-It remake of the familiar 1988 Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock hit âIt Takes Two.â The commercial was directed by writer/producer Roman Coppola and choreographed by La La Land’s Mandy Moore.
