UPDATE: Beyoncé won the 59th Annual Grammy for best Busic Video for Formation 🏆
GRAMMY night is hands down my favorite night of television – 3 hours of live music, tributes, unforeseen collaborations, and cheering for our favorite artists in the industry. All this while our second screen is fixated on refreshing the Twitter newsfeed, which is jam packed with the most laser-sharp commentary and memes on what we just witnessed, LIVE! It can’t be beat and you can watch it all go down Sunday, February 12th.
Now, of course, we all go to the Grammys to be entertained, but there is one category I always keep an eye on. The whole reason I became a video editor is because of music videos. I love visual storytelling and music videos are short, concise, entertaining mini films/extended commercials trying to make the most impact in a particular amount of time. The Grammy award in this music video category goes to the performer, director, and producers, as voted by the Recording Academy, in an untelevised event. For fun prep, you can catch every music video winner from 1984 to 2016 on Yahoo to hold you over until they announce this year’s addition to the list: Yahoo – Every Grammy Music Video Winner
Finally, here are your 5 nominees for the 2017 Best Music Video Grammy:
Beyoncé, “Formation”
Leon Bridges, “River”
Coldplay, “Up & Up”
Jamie XX, “Gosh”
OK Go, “Upside Down & Inside Out”
Which video and artist are you rooting for?
